This patented system for treating and eliminating periodontal disease was developed by Duane Keller, D.M.D., of St. Louis, Mo.

Laboratory- processed special custom trays are made from accurate dental impressions and casts. The trays fit over the teeth and contain unique seals around the gums, providing for the delivery of prescribed medications deep into the diseased crevicular/pocket areas. The system was given FDA clearance April, 2004 as a medical device. The trays are worn daily at short, prescribed intervals. A comprehensive periodontal examination and diagnosis is required before utilizing this system.

The Perio Protect Method™ Healing Process

	1. Infected tissues become red, swollen, inflamed, and sore. Left unchecked the bone may become damaged and the tooth support may be compromised or lost. Because the infection is beyond the reach of brushing and flossing, further intervention is necessary.
	2. The Perio Tray™ is a custom-made tray that directs medications into the diseased periodontal pocket, and the Method maintains the medication there long enough to kill the bacteria. The medications alter the film on the teeth, making brushing and flossing more effective. When the cause of the disease is controlled, the host begins to heal.
	3. Swelling and bleeding decrease as the bacteria are controlled. Doctors modify how long and how often patients were their Perio Trays™ as healing occurs. The recovery of the infected gum tissue is easy, simple, comfortable, and rarely requires surgery when used daily.
	4. Long-term maintenance enables the patient to retain healthy tissue. The medications alter the film on the teeth, making brushing and flossing more effective. The disease is now under control and remains that way with regular use of the Perio Trays™.
