Barry Glassman, DMD, and Angela
Kowaleski: "Dealing with Medical Insurance Issues in the TMD/Craniofacial
Pain and Dental Sleep Medicine Practice"
Workshop ( 7-9 P.M.) topic: One of the most pressing
issues of private practice is that of medical insurance coverage for our
patients. It is usually the 1st question asked when TMD/Sleep Apnea patients
call to appoint. There seem to be many areas that need discussion on when
insurance is/may cover the diagnostic and treatment procedures, vs. denial. To
obtain a pre-cert/authorization, HCFA 1500 forms, " in network, vs. out of
network, non-participating provider", "Opt-out/Medicare" issues, and what to do
for the patient when an appeal is needed. Usually dental insurance does not
ap-ply. What responses can our staff make to facilitate treatment?
Dr.
Barry Glassman maintains a private practice in Allentown, PA, which is limited
to chronic pain management, head and facial pain, temporomandibular joint
dysfunction and dental sleep medicine. He is a Diplomate at the American
Academy of Craniofacial Pain, a Fellow of the International College of
Craniomandibular Orthopedics, a Fellow of the Academy of Dentistry
International and a Diplomate of the American Academy of Pain Management. Barry
is on staff at Lehigh Valley Hospital where he serves as a resident instructor
of Craniomandibular Dysfunctions and Sleep Disorders. He is a Diplomate of the
American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine. Dr. Glassman is on staff at the Sacred
Heart Hospital Sleep Disorder Center and was recently named Co- Medical
Director of the St. Luke's Hospital Headache Center.
Angela Kowaleski
has been office manager and working with Dr. Glassman for 14 years. A graduate
of the Allentown Business School, she double majored in Nursing. She has been
innovative and creative in the billing arena and has established policies that
have allowed the office to proceed with therapy for patients that have
otherwise been denied by conventional dental billing concepts.

Barbara Trovato, PhD. "TRUE COLORS
Personality Typing for Improved Communication Skills"
Docs: Can personality typing facilitate practice
management? Can it reduce daily stress? Nurture staff and patient loyalty? Can
it foster team interaction, harmony and even synergy? Can personality profiling
improve case presentation? After all, have you ever wondered why some people
simply set your teeth on edge (literally)? Why do some patients ask you a
million questions and others want you to shut up and work? Understand yourself,
your team members and your pa-tients. Similar to traditional personality typing
systems like DISC or Myers-Briggs, True Colors is as simple as it is pro-found.
Bring your staff!
Dr. Barbara Trovato was a Tenured Associate Professor
at LaSalle University, 1989-2000 and chaired the under-graduate Spanish
Department. She has been published in peer-reviewed journals, conducted
methodology workshops for high school language teachers and awarded LaSalle's
Lindback Honor for Distinguished Teaching. She averages 75+ hours in dental and
practice management CE yearly. Barbara has trained teachers in personality
profiling for effective communi-cation between teachers and learners. She is
presently the practice coordinator at Meetinghouse Dental Care since 2000, with
